A Laugh a Minute ....

Amusing item in today's CCT; SEA President For Life Laura "Norma Rae" Carlyle complained that "It is very difficult when teaching is politicized."

She's right.

That was damn political of the School Committee to be out on the street holding picket signs, marching around town, crowding into meetings, making grossly inaccurate statements to the press, refusing to write student college recommendations, attend dances, graduations, etc.

What?

Oh, that was the union doing those things?

So the School Committee sat quietly through almost three years of negotiation without making any public comment and She thinks the Committee politicized it?

I'm not sure of the spelling for "delusional" -- so let's just call that statement what it really is:  "Bullshit".

Speaking of Bullshit, the CCT also pointed out that there was NEVER any tentative agreement between the union and the School Committee -- and that the Committee never reneged on anything.  The usual procedure is for the School Committee negotiating team to reach a preliminary proposal between themselves and the union which that  goes back to the full School Committee + 1 Selectman for a vote.  From reading the CCT, it appears that one night, while Killion was absent on business, Kangas brought back a proposal to the full Committee -- before discussing it with her own negotiating sub-committee.  The full Committee apparently laughed it out of the room and went on with their lives.

Nothing was reneged on.  Kangas is hardly authorized to speak for the Committee. let alone bind the Committee on a three year labor contract.  In fact, if the School System was a McDonald's franchise, she probably wouldn't even be allowed to use the fry-o-later without management supervision.

I hope the union membership recognizes that a lie is a lie -- regardless of how many times it gets repeated.

There is one interesting item buried in the end of the MOU -- starting next year teachers who are not members of the Union will have to pay an "Agency Fee" to the union because they benefit from the Union's contract negotiation.  This is common in other places -- but is new in the Sandwich contract.

It's interesting because the people it affects (those that choose not to join the union -- or who left the union in disgust) don't get to vote on it.  The District agreed to force them to pay the extra fee to the union -- regardless of the employees personal beliefs.

On the one hand, it sucks that somebody who may despise the union's antics is now forced to fund them.  On the other hand, maybe this will give those who have been disgusted with the union the incentive they need to get involved, take control of their union, and elect some leadership of which they can be proud.

Maybe the Cape Cod Times could write one of their bitchy editorials about that idea?

UPDATE -- The Emptyprize includes a quote from Kangas that said, " ... she wished the final number could have been closer to what the average teacher on the Cape makes."

Huh?

I'm not questioning the amount of the raise -- only that a member of the School Committee negotiating team thought the union wasn't "closer to what the average teacher on the Cape makes".  According to the Mass DOE, the average Mass teacher made $68,781; the average Cape teacher made $68,102 and the average Sandwich teacher made $69,609 in FY 2010.

This issue came up last winter when claims were made that Sandwich teachers were the lowest paid on the Cape  ... complete bullshit -- yet again.  I think I am seeing a trend.

Also reported in the CCT's the number of students from Sandwich alone going to just Sturgis. Over 150 kids....how many are going to the other remaining schools PJP, Upper Cape Tech, Barnstable, Tabor, Chatham...and they just keep on marching right out of town. Way to go everyone!

Perhaps the SACAT cameras should give us a quick scan behind the SC table? Do you think Carlysle's arm extends up the back of Kangas' shirt to manipulate her or does it perhaps enter from another venue?

This is hilarious --- after almost 3 years of hysterics, the union ended up with almost exactly what they could have had 3 years ago!
Nice job.

Well, at least some lawyers made some big fees for three years of nonsense.

Bob,as you know, if the whole team isn't at the mtg.normally the mtg. is cancelled. The mtg. inwhich Ms. Killion was absent, we were just waiting for a response, because at the previous mtg. when Ms.Killion was there we gave the SEA our response to them. At this particular mtg. we were just waiting for their response, which we received. There was nothing new, nothing had changed, and as you also know committee members are on the team to represent the entire committee and have no ability to inject new proposals without an executive mtg. prior. I understand you do not like anything I do, and that is fine, but I do wish you would get all the facts before you slander me for something I did not do. As far as the teacher pay goes, I was utilizing a different source than you stated. But my mom was a teacher as everyone knows and I do know what goes on behind the scenes first hand. Yes,I do wish the committee was able to do more on all areas within the district, but are hands are tied with what the town has given us this year. If you would like to actually speak to me, which you have never done, and find out MY reasonings behind my decisions I'd be more than glad to speak to you or any of you're bloggers. M. Kangas

Marie,

(A) The point is there was no "tentative agreement" between the SC & the union. The Committee didn't renege on anything -- I would think you would want to make that point clear.

(B) I don't know what your source of payroll info --- mine was the Mass DESE. It sounds like yours came from an SEA hand-out; not where I would expect elected representatives to do their research.

(C) I have no more interest in discussing your "reasoning" than you did in asking questions or gaining an understanding of the issues a few years ago when you routinely sat in the audience and heckled the committee with random strings of numbers, crazy rhetoric, and unfounded and undocumented allegations.

"Slander" ? I think Ms. Kangas probably meant "libel" -- but if she ever looked up either term, she would quickly see that didn't apply either!

But, I assume we all know how she feels about research.

THIS BLOG IS ALL ABOUT SLANDER,LIBEL AND JUST PLAIN NASTINESS. IF THESE COMMENTORS MET FACE TO FACE WITH THE PEOPLE THEY TALK ABOUT THERE WOULD BE A BRAWL.

It's obviously not about spelling, punctuation, grammar, and capitalization...

Laura Carlisle needs therapy, truth serum and a lie detector test. She actually believe the b.s. she spews which is scary too.

Then the whole town would see her for who she really is. One of the most dishonest & nutty person I've had the nightmare of working with.

Teachers how much longer are you gonna put up with this lying sack of Laura Carlisle?
