On the bright side, the Fire Department now has some place to park their new fireboat, the USS Overkill --- if only they had enough people to drive it over to the Annex during the next high tide!
In a related story, a resident of the Service Road area has complained to Selectmen that he would have liked to have some input on the subject before the water was pumped from the Assessor's office. He had already complained to the Cape Cod Commission -- who responded, "Where's Sandwich?"
Finally, In yet another related story, Sandwich Girl Scouts will be shaking their coffee cans in front of Stop & Shop this weekend -- in order to raise funds to buy dry socks for Assessing Department employees.

Bobby as you know the whole building is a mold trap and any one working there is endangered of having some breathing related issues later in life.
Its a wonder the health department has not conducted a millipore sample test to determine the actual risk that all of the workers have been facing for a long time.
Given that the building also has more legal roofs on it then are allowed also gives cause to be concerned about any one working inside this building after it has been covered witha snow , ice fall from a good winter storm.
At least for now some workers may be provided with a safe place to work, unlike our police and firemen who will need to wait for a good clean building to be built to house them in a safe and secure surroundings.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA inspections are not required of public buildings at the local level. Keeping the town's work Environments safe is apparently up to the Department of Health and Board of Health. But I think this is where the rub is and where politics comes into play. So if health standards are compromised, which I think they have been in the annex for years, and it is acknowledged there is a budget issue. Remember we live in a town where budget is not driven by good strategy and planning but by the "checkbook" method. And remember we live in a town where a cap was placed on capital expenditures about 15 years ago. Once again leadership is the issue, and collective leadership at that no less. But a very cute piece Bob.
Maybe there was a very good reason the Town Manager suggested a functional municipal building that holds all town departments years ago, like most other towns on the Cape have. Town leaders thought otherwise.
Why aren't more town offices put at Oak Crest?
Until people keep okaying more money to the school budget (with a decling student enrollment)our public buildings will continue to be held together with duck tape and zip ties. Our elected officials don't seem to have the instestinal fortitude to say no to the school administration. (Okay they're probably more afraid of not getting votes then saying no to school budget increases.)
Any word yet on the end of school year budget transfers and/or purchases? AKA the extra money that was available at the end of the year. Last year it was Ipod purchases, bleachers etc.
Well, we can all go to the new "cultural center" to try to forget our troubles with other properties in town.
It will be interesting to see how much it will cost to get the new Cultural Center restored so people can use it. Wonder how it will be funded? Who will run it? Pipe dreams are so inexpensive!
