Sandwich Schools Looking for a few Good Men ...

Travis Andrade of Forestdale has reportedly returned his papers for School Committee. I've never met Mr. Andrade, although I did hear him speak at Town Meeting a while ago and I thought he made a great presentation. He's a Latin teacher at Sturgis and a Detachment Commander in the United States Army Reserve.

He appears to be well-spoken, well-educated, and has managerial and tactical abilities.  And, he should certainly have a good understanding of why Sandwich students have been flowing into Sturgis!

Nobody will be threatening the Latin classes on his watch!

Welcome aboard, Mr. Andrade!

The Truth Maker would add that some folks are still heel bent on putting a write in candidate on the ballot. If we have three officially submitted documents for all three seats, a write in vote would be like putting Donald or Daffy Duck on the ballot. They call that, like slim to no chance of that ever happening

I think you're mixing recruiting slogans --- Marines "look for a few good men" -- the Army looks for an "Army of One". That certainly seems appropriate for this position!

Welcome aboard, Mr. Andrade, SIR !!

Thank you for your service ... again!

I agree that a write in candidate would not be a good idea at this point. Don't think they would be welcome at the table by all, or coming to the table with the right frame of mind. We had two go on a few years ago that thought they were the salvation of the kids and that did not work out very well. Jim Pierce came to the BOS by running unopposed and he has done a good job.

I think that anyone who decides to run at any time is worthy of consideration. Maybe a write-in will see that an actual "race" for the seat is necessary and/or feels that they may be able to contribute to the district. I was actually amazed only 3 people took out papers for SC. I will definately give a write-in a fair chance especially with 2 relatively unknowns and 1 who,in my opinion, hasn't always been a team player. In the past she has been rude, abrasive and I have questioned her reasonings on how she has voted on certain issues. I am also concerned that she is still, after almost 3 years, unaware of basics within the district. Example, she didn't know there was a third floor at the HS, and wanted to know what it was used for!! I was concerned when she felt the need for the 2 literacy coaches at the HS. First off that program is beneficial for the lower elementary grades and at the HS level if there is a learning disability the student is on an IEP. A coach would not help that child as they deal with showing the teachers how to implement the program into there curriculum, not work directly with the students.I am also concerned that she has missed about 6 SC meetings in the last year alone, 2 being budget workshops, especially as vice chair. That doesn't bode well. Nor does that fact that she has never had a child in the public school system,so I question the "real" reasons why she is running again. The previous super, for whom she was an obvious supporter, is no longer. She hasn't been supportive of the new super and seems to just want to decrease spending at any and every level. I haven't felt that any of her decisions have been for the benefit of the students, programs or district as a whole. I think a write-in would give the citizens a better choice of who can help move this district forward so it can once again be competitive and give our students what they will need to progress into the future.
