The Road to Nowhere ...

The incumbent School Committee Chair cites her two decades of experience on the Committee as an asset to her candidacy.  I would suggest that anybody who questions that (and everybody SHOULD!) takes a quick walk down memory lane by reviewing the meeting minutes for the past year.

In Monday's CCT, she also speaks of wanting to improve communications with other Boards.  One way of doing that would have been not to discontinue the regularly scheduled meetings between representatives of the BOS and School Committee -- as she chose to do last year.  Or, even to attend the prior year's meetings -- which she chose not to do.

And, of course, She also speaks of seeking more "transparency".  (Does anyone ever say they want LESS transparency?)  Ironic, since the three minority members of her Committee routinely complain that they have no idea what will be appearing on meeting agendas -- and are rarely consulted on the "special" sessions which have been frequently called and/or cancelled  at the last minute -- particularly recently.

She doesn't mention her 20 years of experience with the Community School as an asset.  Probably a good idea, given the Community School's history of questionable (albeit SC-sanctioned) financial practices.

Speaking of the Community School, the School Committee hasn't discussed that program's financial operating results since last December.  At that time, the program was still losing money,  was unable to reimburse the School District for their share of the pool utilities cost, AND was facing a $30,000 expense to re-grout the pool in the near future.

That was also BEFORE the public access security issue hit the fan!  Now people are talking about renovations, paying monitors, loss of revenue, etc.  If the program was losing money before it will only get worse now.

Had enough?

PLEASE elect Susan Sundermeyer and Bob Catalini  to the Sandwich School Committee this Thursday.
