FY '07 Superintendent Salary Survey

This Boston Globe survey makes interesting reading.  BUT it's important to note that this survey is based on 4 year old data -- FY '2007 -- not the current fiscal year 2011.

For a historic perspective, it's also interesting to note the change in compensation between FY '04 and FY '07.

So, if the SC's biggest complaint is MEJ's salary, how much are they planning on paying the next one? (after they pay for the interviewing co and the likely lawsuits in the hopper) ee-gads.

OMG Bobby, if this school committee continue with their secret plans. The school train will be plunging off the tressle into the river.

Sherry, Jess, Nancy and Marie actually believe after the messes they have created in just a few short months that Peter's super search will draw a rational high quality superintendant.

The candidate will have to be a bit insane and incompetant to want to work with this dysfunctional broke town.

Sherry should do something right and resign for the sake of our town and children.

I don't think Sherry is the issue. Personally, while we may not always agree -- I have never questioned her concern for the students.

Unlike the others, I don't think Sherry has any self-interests or personal agenda. Her spouse isn't on the union leadership team, she's not a Community School employee, and she's not prone to giving rambling uninformed speeches.

Thank You for that Bob. I always felt her concern was the students

Sorry Bob but we have to disagree with you on this one. Sherry Marshall/Chair interests are in power and control, micromanaging the super and protecting the Community School programs. Also all her old friends that are associated with the community school. Sherry's been on the board far too long that she is afraid to go against the old status quo groups.

Her favorite statement "but we have always done it this way. We haven't heard one new idea from her in years. How on earth is she going to handle the 2.5 deficit without a superintendant?

The Truth Maker would like to respond to your comments Bobby. In regards to your posting that you do not believe Sherry does not have any self interests or personal agenda in the process, her vote tells another whole matter from where I am looking in.
Would you not agree that she has been out of sorts since the present Super was put on board?
She was attempting to jerry rig the whole process of placing the Mashpee Super as the front runner, but was thrown a curve when the other two, backed out of the fix was on scheme.

Now if that information is correct? I would take a second look at motive in regards to an agenda.

As far as having concerns for the children, why would a chair person of any committee use her vote to place the whole town of Sandwich in further financial discource by voting to fire the present super. Knowing that this action would place every school in the district with less money to operate and teach our youngsters?

One can assume, that one, who has served on the School committee for all these years, would have a better understanding of how the process works and has some ideas as to what a vote such as she made, would eventually not be a positive for the school or the town for that matter.

The reasons you have posted, counter, the lack of responsability Sherry has shown in her position as Chair, not once but on severel occasions in the years, she has served as a member of the school committee.

Some may call it an ego tripp and her power was questioned and she lost it and now she is attempting to take it back by voting to fire the present super for doing a good job. She has stood with the Union leadership over most of her years serving the schools and in my opinion, that layed out the process we now have before us.

Just one comment that won't get published. You are full of crap

8:22 Anon, Facts and the proof are in watching the past and future school committee meetings.

Budget season, Sherry uses the same old phrases of dismay every year. Just compare the past two years budget season and you will notice it.

Term Limits should be in our town by laws, Sherry is a classic example of why term limits are crucial to maintaining a healthy democratic town government. She hides when a crisis arises and keeps info from the other board members, make no mistake, she is running the whole show and is not smart enough to know she is in way over her head. Just watch her handle the deficit of 2.5 million.

We received a post from somebody claiming the Sandwich Supt received a 25% raise and had the highest base salary around. I'm not going to publish the full comment because it was more nonsense meant to fuel more rumors.

There has been no raise since she started. Yes, the School Committee bought back some vacation days, but that's because she didn't take vacation. It has no impact on pay rates. There has been discussion of a proposal to pay her for grant administration or some sort of incentive -- which are allowed under her contract - but have NEVER been paid by prior committees. I doubt that will happen with the current committee either.

And -- the salary numbers in the survey were for four years ago. You also need to look at TOTAL compensation in that survey -- NOT just the base salary. And, there aren't many Districts where the Supt goes 2 years without a raise. So -- there's not much of a comparison.

So -- save the Raging Rhetoric for the soccer field!
