I hope he didn't have a pool membership ...

Convicted of raping 8 year olds
From this morning's CCT:

Court assessing elderly pedophile

BARNSTABLE — Gray head bent and shoulders stooped, 79-year-old William F. Mulcahy of Sandwich made a pitiful figure as he was escorted into Barnstable Superior Court in leg irons and handcuffs Friday.

But a forensic psychologist told Judge Gary Nickerson that Mulcahy poses a continuing danger to children despite his advanced age.  (CCT Story continued...)

------------------------------------------------
OK,  before everyone starts jumping up and down -- the point is there are predators everywhere.  In the last few years, this guy (a Eucharistic minister and admitted child rapist), a former school committee member, and two school-related police officers were all involved with inappropriate contact with kids -- and that's just in our happy little Town of Sandwich.

We have two level 3 sex offenders in Town and numerous level 2's.  Do you think any of them may swim?

What about our neighbors in Mashpee, Falmouth, etc.  How many offenders are lurking over there?

We can't protect our kids from every danger in the world.  But, can anybody really say (with a straight face) that its unreasonable to prevent strangers from getting naked with our kids while they are in school between 7:30 and 2:00 ?

Too bad.

Hilarious Bobby!
We laughed for 10 minutes on this one! As I was reading the CCT this morning i wondered how I could paste that article to your blog somehow.
To the pool people, pedofiles come in all ages backgrounds, they don't have a big P on their foreheads either. Many have never been caught and convicted so no CORI either.

Mulcahy would fit perfectly into the elderly pool groups. Sandwich PD might want to post his picture up on the Boys and Girls Open shower areas, im sure the liberal judge will be letting him out soon.

The only two people that could defend this apparantly would be Nancy Crossman and Marie Kangas since they had "NO PROBLEM" with naked people parading around the high school locker rooms! You gotta love local town politics!

Anonymous said...

The real issue here is that Crossman and Kangas were elected to do "A job" not the job of a diligent SC member.

"A job" = remove MEJ at any cost.

It would have taken little foresight and brainpower to call several local towns and find out what their policy is surrounding the pool and concern around common areas.

The simply, logical answer for the rest of us is : Provide a safe environment for the children.

So what do we do about it now? The School Committee is poised to make a huge mistake for our schools and our town. I hope the blogs light up this week. Anyone who can should send letters to the Cape Cod times and the Broadsider (Broadsider comes out in Wednesday) before the deadline for the dirty trick the School Committee is going to play on the Town Thursday. Why is the final discussion about the candidates scheduled at the same time as the Board of Selectman meeting? Don't they think members of the board are interested. Did anyone read the front page story in the Cape Cod Times today?

People can write letters to the editor on Cape Cod Today and they get published fairly fast.

I have heard about the apathy of the voters over and over again. There are clearly people in town that have been advocating on the side of logic for our schools for a year. Now is not the time to be apathetic as advocates. Speak up everywhere you can. The whole dirty little secret is clear now! This School Committee is willing to sell the schools down the river along with the economy of this town. Continue to do something about it! PLEASE!!!!

I would like to see the organization chart that is likely now already being drawn up with the home town candidate in front. Who will have to come on board to make up for the lack of qualifications in order to run the district. Who will be the director of curriculum? What other locals will come on board to make this deal work. What women will stand behind the man to perpetuate the culture that in fact did Dr. Johnson in.

Hold on for one second Bob. You said that a former school committee member and two Sandwich Police Officers in schools were involved in inappropriate contact with children. Other school systems have even had problems with teachers. Using your approach to the pool "problem" (shut it down!)to address these new issues means the entire high school should be shut down! That way no one would be in danger. Sarcasm aside I am a highschool student at Sandwich High and throughout this whole discussion ive noticed that youve nelgected to mention one important detail, so let me set the record straight. The only time a high school student is allowed in the lockerroom is to change for gym. During this time THEY ARE NOT SUPOSE TO BE UNSUPERVISED there should always be a gym teacher in the lockerroom with the kids. If there is not the bullying threat that you all are so concerned about becomes a real problem. The only time I have ever seen physical bullying at SHS was in the locker room when for some reason or another the class was unsupervised. So Bob, there is no problem, just post a rule in the lockerrooms that community school members need to cover up.

Anonymous 11:31 is so right. How 'bout that change of job tittle to subvert qualifications? That was a nice touch to cap off so many disillusioning moments. Politics will prevail over academic excellence and ALL children with needs that need to be served fully, not just those with parents who can rattle sabers by hiring advocates.Clean house.

to anonymous 9:14, "Mulcahy would fit perfectly into the elderly pool groups" What exactly are you basing this statement on? I happen to know many of the water aerobics senior citizens and i must say they are nothing like this monster...please have some respect that was disgusting.

I would also like to call of your attention to two quotes from this article. Firstly "Very few men commit sexual offenses in their 70s and 80s" that is from an expert in psychology, may i see your degrees?
Secondly "Mulcahy does not grab children off the street and is not a danger to the general public" This is a very common trend among sexual assualt cases, the victims KNEW and WERE CLOSE TO their attackers. Mulcahy, like many sex offenders did not just attack random children that did not know him, he targeted children that knew and trusted him. Additionaly the crimes took place in the privacy of his house, NOT a public locker room that is be supervised by gym teachers. Look at the facts people, closing off the lockerroom is reacting to nonexsistant threat.

I would assume 9:54's point was that nobody would have expected a "respected" senior citizen who had been serving his country and his church was actually travelling around the world raping children -- including here in Sandwich.

Appearances obviously can be deceiving --- while the ladies of water aerobics may be wonderful ... what's to stop some pervert from wandering in (particularly with all the recent press attention) with less pure motives?

The threat is hardly non-existent.

The Truth Maker would respond to [Student at High School] perhaps you may need to understand that the problem may not be in the locker area, but in the shower area.

Understanding that you may even be on the swim team , does not preclude you from being molested by someone, once you get through swimming.

It make no difference, but nude adults and nude children[male or female] should not be showering together.

Perhaps in another time and place it may get to be an accepted practice, but not in todays world.

In some cases, the children may be abused on site and in others they are stalked and abused off site.

You may have the strength as a swimmer to fight some one off, but some one with less strength may be victimized and that is the reason the policy needs to be changed. it benifits every one. Why take a chance, when one does not need to.

Think about the process and if you were the victim of such abuse and it did not need to occurr.. You may be to young and are just listing to your parents, but ask them about that same type of policy that allowed priests to use the place of god to do the same thing to thousands of children over the years and every one turned a blind eye and it did not need to occur.

It is much better to be over cautious, then do nothing, that type of abuse remains forever and we need to find every means to prevent it

My 9:54 post was trying to remind everyone that pedofiles live amongst us all everyday. Everyone would welcome ole mr. Mulcahy into the pool showers and not even dream that he could possibly assault one of our children.

The pool adults strongly advocating to keep the showers open to the naked adults are very naive since they don't believe this is serious safety issue.
There pool time is more important than the safety of our children. The pool belong to the children first. Filling the pool with tons of cement and make classrooms sounds great.

I spoke with several students this weekend (whose parents were NOT Community School employees and/or School Committee members) and they all stressed that gym teachers rarely supervise the locker room and they're all tired of sharing it with strangers -- whether they be seniors, middle-aged, or younger with kids of their own in tow.

From what I heard, nobody is closing the pool -- just restricting its use during school hours. Is there ANY other school that allows the public to share locker rooms with kids during the school day?

I also think the argument about proposing to ban visitors from other Community School activities is silly -- unless the Community School has started teaching naked computer courses!

I was told a new schedule for the pool will be ready tomorrow. The pool is not going to shut down. People will just have to get use to a different schedule. I would really like to see the High School get some more supervision in the locker rooms. Anon 1:42, I'm with you 100%. The kids shouldn't have to deal with adults during the school hours in the pool or the locker room. Why can't the kids at Sandwich High have a normal High School experience. Sorry folks who want to remain in 1972. You had your life, now give the kids a chance to start their by feeling that they have a High School that is there to provide an extremely important part of their developmental years!

Any of you super geniuses or high school students have any doubts now? When someone tells you who they are you had better believe 'em. It is that simple.

We're on a roll.

Last week Scott Brown talks about getting groped at a Sandwich camp. This week we read about one of the world's oldest perverts has been living in Sandwich after a career travelling the world molesting children as a Federal employee. Then we read that the Schools have been letting people in off the street to get naked with the kids.

Was the Chamber of Commerce consulted about this publicity effort?

Mrs. Beasley said...

Well, maybe we could turn this whole thing into a money making venture. Perhaps, all the happy naked people parading around the locker rooms could be invited to parade naked around the proposed new boardwalk for a nominal fee! I'm sure the Chamber of Commerce could get their arms around that (er, so to speak)!!

The Truth Maker said...

The Truth Maker would add that the chamber of Commerce stated they would not be asking for any tax money and guess what they have applied and recieved some $49,000 dollars to do a study from guess where, Our 3# percent Community Preservation Tax . The next one will be when they want another $50,000 because they did not get enough to complete the task. So much about No Taxpayers money being used. Typical bait and switch tatic.

Let alone a miss apropriation of tax payers money, for economic benifit for a small group of business owners in the center of town

It is not a done deal yet Truth Maker. The CPC has to make come to the BOS with it's requests for town meeting. Then Town Meeting is asked to vote on each CPC request. CPC is not considered by some to be town money.

Anonymous said...

CPC funds come directly from our real estate tax bills -- does he really think we're that stupid to think otherwise? Even the portion which is matched by the State is matched WITH OUR OWN STATE TAX DOLLARS !!

I am sure Town meeting will shoot down this nonsense. It's too bad the Chamber is going to take a hit to their credibility for supporting such a farce.
