We're not off to a good start ....

One of the frequent arguments over the renovation of the Town Hall was that there is little (if any) available parking.  The frequent response was always, "The Glass Museum will allow us to use their parking!"

Okay.  This is how the Glass Museum has decorated for today's festivities:

The other frequent complaint was that the Town Hall septic system has a capacity of a pair of 5 gallon drywall buckets.  Anybody want to stop by to flush the toilets this morning?

The Town Hall looks great, the contractor seems to have delivered as promised.  I am sure the Hysterical Society and the 10 people who work there will enjoy the $3 million renovation.  I am also sure the folks from NY who wander through Town will probably take an extra picture before they fill up their water bottles for free and go to the beach in Dennis, lunch in Yarmouth, and spend the night in Harwich!

Now, can we do something about the Police & Fire stations that are falling into the marsh -- and maybe the school buildings with water coming through the roofs, and wind whipping through the windows?

Dont count on common sense in Sandwich! The Broadsider reports this week that the Library Director has hired an architect to draw plans for a new building.
Thats right folks - we face a $2 or $3 million dollar operating deficit another $25 million in unfunded capital repairs and yet someone somewhere thought it best to hire and pay an architect to make plans for a new library. Makes sense now that Town Hall look so swell.

I was also less than thrilled to read that the town hall project was over budget by $40,000 and that this money would come out of the town budget. Say what?? I thought this was not going to impact the town budget and it would be all CPA except for moving the town hall workers back and forth and maybe some furniture for the office. What happened to that? I guess if Bud had $40,000 lying around with nothing better to do with it than cover this overage, we may want to take a look at his budgets!!

Not only a new library but it being the SECOND library. Yeah yeah yeah grant this grant that but I believe the town either must provide matching funds or the balance from the grant. I don't recall which. In any event, we are told this town does not have two nickles to rub together so let's build a another library! Didn't the library shorten operating hours because of money yet they can hire an architect? This thing is to be built on land set aside for other potential town projects. I watched that selectmans meeting and remember screaming at the tv wondering why not one member of the board thought to just say no? Town Hall Rededication was planned at the same exact time Sandwich High Homecoming Football game was being played............you can't expect for there to be a plan for parking do you? Gawd..........
